🔥 KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Dancehall superstar Beenie Man has turned a heated public disagreement with Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, into a powerful musical statement with his newly released track, “Weh Di Money Deh?”
The song, released on November 2, 2026, follows a controversial exchange between the entertainer and the Prime Minister over the handling and distribution of funds intended to help Jamaicans recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Melissa.
The dispute began when Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, spoke to Britain’s ITV News about concerns surrounding hurricane relief assistance.
The Grammy-winning entertainer questioned whether donations and government assistance were reaching the families and communities that needed them most.
His remarks quickly attracted national attention, prompting a strong response from Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
During the reopening of Black River Hospital in St. Elizabeth on October 28, Holness defended the Government’s reconstruction efforts, pointing to approximately J$300 million spent rebuilding the facility.
The Prime Minister also criticized comments he believed unfairly damaged Jamaica’s reputation and overlooked the progress being made.
Rather than allowing the controversy to fade, Beenie Man took his concerns into the recording studio.
His new single, “Weh Di Money Deh?”, addresses questions about transparency, accountability, and the struggles of Jamaicans still awaiting assistance.
The song carries a message that reaches beyond political divisions, emphasizing that hurricane victims deserve support regardless of political affiliation.
Beenie Man has explained that his original remarks came from genuine concern for families affected by the hurricane and that the song was developed afterward.
The release has sparked conversations across Jamaica and throughout the diaspora about the role of entertainers in speaking out on national issues.
While Beenie Man is demanding answers about relief distribution, Prime Minister Holness maintains that the Government has been investing in recovery and reconstruction.
The disagreement has placed renewed attention on an important issue: How can the public see where hurricane relief resources are going, what has been accomplished, and who is still waiting for assistance?
Questions about the distribution of assistance do not, by themselves, establish that funds have been stolen or misused. But the public debate highlights the importance of transparency and timely help for families recovering from disaster.
For decades, reggae and dancehall have served as powerful platforms for social commentary. Beenie Man’s latest release continues that tradition.
🔥 Is Beenie Man right to use his music to demand greater accountability?
🇯🇲 Or is Prime Minister Andrew Holness right that the Government’s recovery work deserves greater recognition?
One thing is certain: “WEH DI MONEY DEH?” has turned a political disagreement into one of the most talked-about conversations in Jamaican entertainment.
